Storytelling sits at the center of everything I do—from speaking and strategy to the written word. Here you’ll find essays from my Midlife Sidequests blog alongside published travel features with outlets like PlanetWare and Islands Magazine, exploring reinvention, identity, and the stories we live along the way.
Pressed Between the Pages
When we read the stories of others in their physcial form, the pages of their journey in turn capture our own lived experiences: The drops of watermelon juice from the quintessentially quaint Bangkok cafe; the impossibly velevety-fine sand from the beaches of San Juan and Da Nang; the salty tears and ocean water that mark the relevant passages and tides we’re meant to return to; boarding passes from bygone trips (escapes) that serve as bookmarks not only to pages, but to core memories; the torn edge that sparks the faint remembrance a sudden gust of warm Caribbean wind; the almost-dissipated smell of Turkish kebabs that immediately transports us back to that wonderfully chaotic bazaar; the smudge of dirt from who knows where while we were doing who knows what.
Neon highlights stretch unevenly across the text while our handwritten notes decorate the margins, exploring thoughts, feelings, and ideas we may act on — or never think of again. The mere act of transferring those ideas from our minds onto the physical pages of The One Thing, or Eat, Pray, Love, or Who Moved the Cheese, or The Alchemist is enough to anchor them (even if only subconsciously) into our daily actions.
Our lives move forward, but the experiences that shape us remain… forever pressed between the pages of a story that, somewhere along the way, became a shared journey through life, time, and becoming.
